The characteristics of the ocean in Fukushima Prefecture, the Oyashio Current of cold currents and the Kuroshio Current of warm currents, are the "Oyashio Current" and "Kuroshio Current". The theme of the aquarium is the "tidal zone" where the cold current Oyashio and the warm current Kuroshio, which are characteristic of the ocean of Fukushima Prefecture, meet. In the Oshiome no Omoiki Tank, visitors can observe Pacific saury in the Oyashio Tank and bonito in the Kuroshio Tank up close while passing through a triangular tunnel, the first of its kind in the world. Plants are also displayed in the sunlit aquarium, recreating the natural environment in which living creatures live. Outside, visitors can step barefoot onto the world's largest touch pool, "Janome Beach," which recreates the environment of a rocky ・ sandy beach, and interact with starfish, sea cucumbers, and other seashore creatures. There are also a variety of hands-on programs to participate in, and the "backyard tour" that takes visitors behind the scenes of the aquarium and the "fishing experience" where visitors can deep-fry and eat fish they caught themselves are very popular.
